The GATE-SHA Higher Diploma in Hotel
and Restaurant Management is a three-year program, in which four
semesters are focused to theoretical and practical learning on campus
(academic semesters) and two semesters are completed on a industry
exposure experience (practicum semesters) a hotel, restaurant or other
hospitality establishment. This course of study is for students
intending to pursue a managerial career in the hospitality industry.
There are two different modules for the course of study:
Module 1
The students complete two academic
semesters, after which they are assigned to an industrial exposure
experience of one year, fulfilling the requirements for their two
practicum semesters.
Module 2
Upon their admission, the students
must complete academic semesters, after which they are assigned to an
industrial exposure experience, the first practicum semester. After
completing this first internship, the students return to college for
their third and fourth academic semesters, which are followed by the
last practicum semester.
Academic Semesters 1 and 2 concentrate
on the Food and Beverage Service, Food production, Room Division,
Housekeeping and Administration areas of the hospitality industry,
together with English, study skills, Information Technology and
French,Chinese and German language studies. Academic Semesters 3 and 4
focus on advanced management subjects.
